FCC Austria takes care of cleanliness along A2 highway
01/08/2018
With the 377,3 km the “Südautobahn” A2 ('South Motorway') is longest motorway in Austria. It runs from the outskirts of Vienna south via the cities of Graz and Klagenfurt to the border of Italy at Arnoldstein, where it joins the “Autostrada A23”.
Thanks to its location, the A2 motorway - connecting north and south of Europe - is a popular transfer road for many people. Based on the ASFINAG*) statistics in year 2017 more than 26.000 vehicles passed the A2 highway every day. Of course in the summer holiday season the traffic density is much higher, as the A2 highway is a very popular corridor for Czech, Slovak and Polish tourists to reach the Adriatic Sea.
Such large traffic brings some side effects, among others also in the form of a large amount of waste that rivers and passengers generate during their journey. Only in year 2017 more than 670 tons of the residual waste were left behind, about 236 tons of them during the summer months (May-August).
FCC containers, your “cleanliness guardian angels” during holiday-season on A2 motorway
Since year 2013 FCC Austria Abfall Service AG takes care about the waste and cleanliness for almost all A2 motorway service stations for ASFINAG. In total, there are 266 pcs of 1.100 litres containers and 30 pcs of 240 litres containers (fire protection containers) provided by FCC Austria on the route of the A2 motorway.
Unfortunately more and more passengers dispose their waste on the rest stations of the motorways in Austria. A recent research showed that in 2017 more than 2.000 tons of waste such as construction waste, old tires, bikes, electrical waste and even refrigerators have been left behind on the rest stations. This uncontrolled waste-disposal is a problem on all motorways in Austria and causes lots of costs for the right separation and recycling.
You can find the FCC bins at the rest places along the A2 motorway, whether at the small parking spots or rest areas and big service stations. They are waiting for your waste to be transported and treated as resource for further recycling.
