Celebrating 30 Years In The Czech Market
31/05/2021
This year, FCC, formerly known as .A.S.A., is celebrating 30 years of operation on the Czech waste management market.
However, the very beginning of the company goes back a little further, to 1988, when SEH (Sonderabfall-Entsorgung Holding) was founded in Austria. The name was not very memorable, the company changed it in 1991 when it was renamed to .A.S.A. or Abfall Service Austria. The four dots became a fixed part of the new name and the logo itself.
As part of its expansion into the markets of Central and Eastern Europe, the Austrian company started operations in 1991 in the then Czechoslovakia. First for a short time as a small design office, it expanded very quickly, increasing the number of its employees, locations, subsidiaries and significantly expanding its portfolio of services.
In 1992, a landfill was built in Únanov, South Moravia, and a year later a landfill was opened in Ďáblice, Prague. Since 1998, the Ďáblice site has also been the company's headquarters. In 1994, the French company Electricité de France became the owner of the entire .A.S.A. group of companies. Since 2006, the owner has been FCC (FOMENTO DE CONSTRUCCIONES Y CONTRATAS, S.A.) - a Spanish company with more than a century of history. In 2016, the logo and subsequently the business name changed from the original .A.S.A. to FCC.
Currently, the FCC group of companies is the market leader in the waste management sector in the country. It serves almost 1.2 million inhabitants and offers a comprehensive range of services for municipalities, businesses and tradesmen.
The FCC group of companies in the Czech Republic is currently represented by a total of 19 entities employing more than 1,900 people. "I have repeated on many occasions that the greatest capital of any company is its people. In the case of our company, this is doubly true. More than a third of our people have been with us for more than ten years. One in ten has been with us for 20 years," said Arnošt Kastner, Area Manager for the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland. "This amazing and for me very valuable loyalty of our colleagues is one of the key reasons why our company has become a market leader. I would like to thank everyone for this and I believe that we will continue to operate as successfully for decades to come."
