Unlocking true value with AI-powered pricing

Back2Life Collectibles and Retro PiecesTrnava, Slovakia – Back2Life, a project dedicated to reuse and the promotion of the circular economy, is expanding its offer with a brand-new category: “Collectibles and Retro Pieces.” The new category is designed for items with higher collectible, historical, or market value and further strengthens Back2Life’s mission to give things a second life instead of letting them become waste.

Back2Life focuses on extending the lifespan of functional and well-preserved items and preventing waste generation. Rather than disposal, unwanted objects are transformed back into valuable resources. The project supports sustainable lifestyles, responsible consumption, and the principles of the circular economy.

Back2Life has been operating since June 2021, when the first reuse centre of its kind in Slovakia opened in Trnava. The project builds on more than ten years of experience of the FCC Environment CEE Group in reuse and circular solutions. What makes Back2Life unique is the combination of a physical reuse centre with an online reservation system www.back2life.sk, where all available items are displayed, categorised, and priced. Customers can browse and reserve items from the comfort of their homes, make a sustainable choice, and at the same time support a meaningful cause.

New category: Retro and Collectible Pieces

The newly introduced Collectibles and Retro Pieces category includes items whose real market value exceeds the former upper price limit of EUR 12, which applied to the category New Branded and Premium Quality Items.

“The reason we introduced a new category and an updated pricing assessment method was that some clients brought truly valuable items to Back2Life—items that have not only practical value, but also collector’s or antique value. We wanted to ensure fair and transparent pricing that better reflects their real market value,” explains Lucie Zumrová, Head of Group Communications and Marketing at FCC Environment CEE.

To support fair and transparent pricing, artificial intelligence is now used when assigning items to this category. After an item is uploaded to the system, the AI compares the proposed price with market prices of similar items on Slovak online marketplaces and suggests an appropriate price. As a result, customers can discover true gems for collectors and lovers of retro design.

Measurable environmental impact

Since its launch, Back2Life has helped give a second life to almost 28,000 sold items, including household goods, decorations, toys, sports equipment, books, and other everyday items.

The project has also delivered tangible environmental benefits:

  • savings of approximately 18 tonnes of municipal waste,
  • a reduction of around 8.1 tonnes of CO₂ emissions,
  • savings of approximately 72 m³ of landfill space.

Back2Life proves that reuse can be a functional, long-term, and scalable model that successfully combines environmental, social, and community benefits while delivering measurable positive impact for both society and the environment.
