Compost – a certified product made from organic waste
Compost is a natural soil improver produced through the controlled biological treatment of organic waste. It is rich in essential nutrients and organic matter, helping to improve soil structure, increase water retention, and support healthy plant growth.
At FCC Environment CEE, compost is not a by-product—it is a quality-controlled product that plays a key role in the circular economy.
From biowaste to a valuable resource
Organic waste, such as food scraps, garden waste, and green cuttings, is often perceived as useless or problematic. Through professional composting, however, this material is transformed into a valuable resource that can be safely returned to the environment.
While compost is sometimes mistakenly seen as “dirty” or low quality because it originates from waste, it is important to remember that all compost—including home compost—is made from organic waste. The real difference lies in process control, quality assurance, and certification.
FCC compost is produced under strictly monitored conditions and meets national quality standards across our operating countries.

Where FCC compost is used
FCC compost is widely applied in:
- agriculture and horticulture,
- landscaping and urban green areas,
- land reclamation and environmental rehabilitation,
- soil improvement projects.
By using compost, customers actively support sustainable soil management, reduce dependence on mineral fertilisers, and contribute to climate protection.
Compost in numbers
In the year 2025, across the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, and Romania, FCC Environment CEE produced approximately 41,400 tonnes of compost, returning valuable nutrients to the soil and closing material loops.
Interesting fact about compost
On average, about 300–400 kg of compost is produced from one ton of biodegradable waste, depending on the composition of the input material. Due to a more favourable input composition, FCC achieves significantly lower material loss. With a loss rate of only 43%, FCC produces, on average, 570 kg of compost from one ton of biodegradable waste.
