Waste splitting

Waste splitting

Waste splitting stands at the beginning of the efficient waste treatment process. Thanks this technology the unsorted communal waste is separated into different fractions which go to further treatment and waste recovery. Using a selective treatment process, fractions high in calorific value are separated off from commercial and industrial waste, creating a marketable product.

The design/layout of our splitting plants is adapted to legal regulations and market situation in respective countries in order to achieve the highest ecological and economical solution. This also results in different output fractions, depending on the country.

How splitting plant works

Generally waste passes through several steps. Pre-shredding brings the input material to a uniform size and eliminates overlengths which would interfere with further processes. Ballistic separation removes contraries and recyclable materials from the light/fuel fraction. At the end of the process there are 4 (5) fractions at disposal or further treatment:

  • recyclables containing metals (can be used for further treatment to win the raw material)
  • (mash minus and) heavy fraction (usually goes to landfills or further biological treatment)
  • light fraction – RDF (refuse-derived fuels)
  • 3D fraction/ middle calorific fraction (usually utilized in different types of incineration plants, in some cases sorting into valuable fractions possible)
