České Budějovice, Czech Republic: Gateway to South Bohemia
What if a waste management company became your travel guide?
Some destinations are worth visiting.
Others inspire you to keep exploring.
České Budějovice belong to the latter.
Nestled in the heart of South Bohemia, this charming city combines centuries of history, world-famous brewing traditions, elegant architecture, and easy access to some of the Czech Republic's most beautiful landscapes.
Welcome to another stop on our FCC CEE Travel Guide.
At the heart of the city lies Přemysl Otakar II Square, one of the largest and most beautiful town squares in the Czech Republic. Surrounded by colourful historic buildings, arcades, and cafés, it perfectly captures the atmosphere of South Bohemia.
Rising above the city skyline is the Black Tower, a 16th-century landmark offering spectacular views over České Budějovice and the surrounding countryside. Nearby stands the impressive Cathedral of St. Nicholas, one of the region's most important religious monuments.
Just a short trip away, visitors will find one of the Czech Republic's greatest treasures: Hluboká Castle. With its romantic Neo-Gothic architecture inspired by Windsor Castle, it is often considered the country's most beautiful castle.

Yet České Budějovice is much more than a historic city.
Located at the confluence of the Vltava and Malše rivers, it serves as the perfect starting point for discovering South Bohemia. Nature lovers can explore the Blanský Forest, cycle through the famous landscapes of the Třeboň Basin, or venture into the pristine forests and mountain scenery of Šumava National Park.
South Bohemia is also a paradise for active travellers. Canoeing on the Vltava, cycling between castles and historic towns, hiking through forests, or simply enjoying riverside promenades are all part of the local experience.
And no visit would be complete without discovering the city's brewing heritage.
České Budějovice is home to Budweiser Budvar, one of the world's most famous breweries. Visitors can explore centuries-old brewing traditions and, of course, enjoy a fresh Czech lager directly at the source.

FCC Connection
České Budějovice is also home to one of FCC's major operations in the Czech Republic.
Since 1998, FCC has been providing comprehensive waste management services in České Budějovice and dozens of surrounding municipalities. Today, approximately 200 colleagues support residents, businesses, and public institutions throughout the region.
The company provides waste collection, transport, road maintenance, public greenery care, and recycling services. It operates four permanent recycling centres and mobile collection centres for bulky and hazardous waste. Residents also benefit from the unique Waste Taxi service, which continuously patrols the city and collects containers that could not be serviced during regular collection rounds.
FCC also operates a municipal waste landfill in Lišov, equipped with a modern sorting line and composting facility, helping recover valuable resources and support sustainable waste management across South Bohemia.
While visitors discover castles, rivers, breweries, and the natural beauty of South Bohemia, our colleagues work behind the scenes every day to help keep the region clean, sustainable, and ready to welcome future generations.
