About alternative fuel production

Treating waste in order to recover energy for the production of heat and electricity has become increasingly important. Refused Derived Fuel is a fuel produced entirely from waste with non-hazardous properties, mainly residues from industrial processes and some packaging materials which cannot be recycled.

Using a combination of mechanical and biological treatment methods, the material - loose chippings of about 25 mm consisting of a mixture of plastics, paper, textiles, rubber and wood - is sorted, crushed, then magnetic separators, pneumatic separator or PVC infrared separator such as the case at the Wiener Neustadt facility extract metal impurities. A wheel loader then continuously mixes it in the storage bin so that uniformity is achieved.

RDF is usually used in cement factories or lime works with rotary kilns, where adding RDF allows for the replacement of conventional fossil fuels and a decrease of emissions released into the atmosphere.
